Mark R. Courtney

Mark Courtney's reputation as a trusted advisor to Fortune 500 companies is grounded in more than 30 years of crisis management support in some of the world’s most hostile and unpredictable environments.

Mark R. Courtney & Associates was launched in Johannesburg in 1992 and has provided executive protection and related security services in 73 countries.

​

Between 2001 and 2011 Mark was the sole resident kidnap for ransom responder on the African continent on behalf of Clayton Consultants Inc. and Triple Canopy Inc., premier global crisis management companies. He led the in-country crisis management teams and secured the release of over 50 kidnap victims with zero death or dismemberment.

Mark became a member of the South African Police Reserve in 1989 and retired as Head of the elite Endangered Species Protection Unit Reserve with the rank of Captain. The ESPU’s mandate was to protect national fauna, flora and significant artefacts targeted by local and foreign criminal syndicates. This included counter poaching duties in National Parks, covert surveillance and investigations.

Mark has been an international speaker since 2001 addressing amongst other organisations The Energy Security Council (Houston, USA) on Kidnapping in Africa and ASIS International on Kidnapping and Terrorism Threats (San Diego, USA), Kidnapping and Security Threats in Africa (Paris, France) and The Risk to Business in Africa (Beijing, China).

Mark is the recipient of the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellowship Award for outstanding community service.
